Work-Life Balance Initiative

One of the goals ATS President J. Randall Curtis, M.D., M.P.H., set for his presidency was to "develop the ability of the ATS to support its members in enhancing work-life balance."

Working with Angela Wang, M.D., a pulmonary and critical care physician at the Scripps Clinic, and Kristin Riekert, Ph.D., co-director of the Johns Hopkins Adherence Research Center, and other ATS members, he launched a work-life balance initiative.

To date, the initiative includes three components: "Practicing Work-Life Balance," a compendium of practical tips for achieving work-life balance; "Life Outside Work," a column for members’ first person accounts of how they sought and found a meaningful balance; and "How Do They Do It?," an extended interview with ATS members on work-life issues.

All members are invited to share their personal insights and techniques for creating a better work-life balance and to suggest ways that the ATS can help members by answering a brief survey.

The opinions expressed in these articles are those of the authors and not of the American Thoracic Society.
